"In the narrowest sense, green building is concerned with minimizing the environmental impact of construction from site development and procurement of materials all the way to the safe disposal of the building at the end of its useful life. In the widest sense, green building is about sustainability. Essentially, sustainability is the art and science of providing a healthy environment for ourselves and future generations while maintaining a viable economy in the process."
Paula and Steve Hager, "Green Building for Profit," Journal of Light Construction, February (2001): 61-68
The photos above demonstrate some of the "Green" building materials we have used in our projects:
  1. Treated with a nontoxic Borate salt solution, cellulose insulation is made of recycled newspapers, is fire safe, and outperforms traditional fiberglass in R values and air infiltration, plus it is safer to install.
  2. Metal roofing affords long material life, is made from a large percentage of recycled steel, and can be recycled itself at the end of its useful life span.
  3. Salvaged materials such as roof tiles, redwood, and concrete sidewalk shown here, while often more difficult to find, enhance the beauty of any project.
  4. This structure has been framed with third party certified, sustainably harvested lumber.
